🏞️ What is new in Nile 1.6 TEST7

OM's Nile 1.6, patched by FMJ for the new TAC files, with autosave on, crash files, a 3D preview crash fixed, the new colour actions and Water Murk that works in game.

Reads the big TAC files

After the TAC update of 30 September 2026 the game files grew past 2 GB and stock Nile 1.6 only saw 19 terrains and 3 environments. The FMJ build reads the whole file again: 128 terrains and 50 environments. Confirmed by Belsman. Nile also keeps the 4 GB (Large Address Aware) patch.

Autosave on by default

Nile's own autosave is switched on: every 5 minutes to YourMap.npj.bak. Change the time or switch it off in File › Preferences › Set Auto Save.

If Nile crashes

Stock Nile almost never produced a usable crash file, which is why old Nile crashes were so hard to fix.

3D preview crash fixed

The spinning 3D object preview could crash after a model was reloaded (found from Filip's crash file, the first mapper crash file we received). Confirmed fixed by the mappers.

Water Murk works in game (TEST7)

Water Murk (Mission › Terrain Variables) never reached the game. Nile showed it as a percent but saved it as a fraction (40 was saved as 0.40); the game reads a whole percent, so it got 0, which means "no setting", and the water kept the terrain's own murk. That is why some terrains (DG3 for one) stayed 100% murky whatever you typed. Every Nile map ever saved had this, NovaLogic's own maps too. Found from pertek's and Belsman's reports.

Colour actions

Sun Color, Sky Light Color, Ground Light Color, Horizon Color, Lightning Color and Color Fade, in the General action group. Full guide: Colour actions in Nile.

Nile maps into MED

Belsman asked for a way to take a Nile project into MED for the finishing touches (#nile-requests, ".NPJ to .MIS converter tool"). MED TEST13 and newer have it: File › Import Nile Project. The old NovaHQ converter put many objects at the wrong height because the game moves Nile objects by a ground point built into each model; MED's import does the same, so the map looks in MED's export the way it does when the game loads the Nile project.
