π οΈ Troubleshooting
The handful of things that catch people out, and what to do about them.
I cannot connect
- Is the game server actually running?
- Does Port match
remote_admin_portin the server'sgame.cfg? If that line is missing, remote admin is off - add it and restart the server. - Do the username and password match a line in the server's
admin.cfg(NAME PASSWORD RIGHTS)? The password is case sensitive, and the rights should be3Ffor a full admin. - Is there an
ip_restrictline inadmin.cfg? If so, only those addresses may connect. - Same PC as the server? Use
127.0.0.1as the address. - Different PC? A firewall on the server PC may be blocking the admin port. Over the internet, the port also has to be forwarded on the server's router.
It disconnects every time the map changes
That is normal. Joint Ops reloads the whole server on a map change and closes the admin connection while it does. Leave Auto-Reconnect ticked on the Server tab and WolfRAT is back within about half a minute, by itself.
I pressed a button and nothing happened
Open the Console tab. WolfRAT does not use pop-ups for server errors - it writes the reason there, in plain words.
The Weather tab is greyed out
The weather only works when WolfRAT runs on the same PC as the game server. The top line of the tab says whether it has found one. If the server is on that PC and WolfRAT still cannot change the weather, try running WolfRAT as administrator.
Lightning does nothing / the private welcome does not show
- Both switch on at the next map change after you install or save them. The game only reads its scripts when a map loads.
- If you changed the map within a few seconds of saving, that map load may have been too early - change the map once more.
- If WolfRAT says it cannot write into the server folder, the server is probably installed somewhere protected (like Program Files). Run WolfRAT as administrator.
- The private welcome appears a few seconds after the player spawns, not while they sit on the spawn screen.
A chat command does nothing
- WolfRAT has to be running and connected. It is WolfRAT that reads the chat.
- Give it a few seconds - WolfRAT reads the chat every 5 seconds.
- Moderator commands are ignored unless the player's name is on the Mods list, spelled exactly as it is in game.
- Weather commands also need Let mods change the weather from chat ticked on the Weather tab.

My message was cut short or split in two
Game chat allows 62 characters per line. That is the game's limit, not WolfRAT's. Keep messages short, and remember a long player name uses up part of the line.
The updater keeps offering the same update
This happens when the program file has been renamed. Close WolfRAT, rename the file back to WolfRAT2.exe, and update again. Or simply download the latest zip and replace the exe - your settings live in separate files next to it and are kept.
My antivirus complains about WolfRAT
WolfRAT is a single self-contained program, and some antivirus tools are suspicious of those by default. Only ever download it from fmj-squad.com. If your antivirus quarantines it, restore it and add an exception for the WolfRAT folder.
The window does not fit on my screen
WolfRAT works down to 1024x768. On a small screen, pages that do not fit get their own scroll bar, and the little arrows at the right-hand end of the tab bar bring the hidden tabs into view.
Moving WolfRAT to another PC
Copy the whole WolfRAT folder. All your settings - saved servers, mods, messages, stats - are small files sitting next to WolfRAT2.exe.
Still stuck?
Ask in the FMJ Squad community. It helps enormously if you can say which WolfRAT version you have (bottom right of the window) and paste the last few lines from the Console tab.
